Giants' Most ‘In-Demand' Trade Chip Revealed Ahead of Deadline
The San Francisco Giants' decision to hire Tony Vitello as the new manager has not worked out early on.
Entering Jun 16, the Giants have the second-worst record in the National League, and they have a large obstacle to overcome if they want to sneak into the playoff discussion.
As such, the Giants figure to be sellers when the MLB trade deadline comes. This year's deadline is on August 3, and unless a miracle happens in San Francisco over the next few weeks, several players should be headed out of the Bay Area.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic both reported that the Giants want to move off some big contracts, such as the ones given to Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman and Willy Adames.
The Giants are open to offers for their three highest-paid position players - Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman - among other obvious trade candidates, like Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray.

The Giants are barely one year past acquiring Devers in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox, so it is a bit of a surprise.
At the same time, there is one player who Feinsand described as the "most in-demand" trade piece: Infielder Luis Arraez.
"With Webb not expected to be available, the Giants' most in-demand trade chip this summer is likely to be second baseman Luis Arraez, given his strong season, reasonable salary and modest prospect cost as a pending free agent," Feinsand wrote.
The Giants don't plan on trading veteran pitcher Logan Webb, and Arraez is expected to be a popular piece for the reasons Feinsand mentioned above.
Arraez took a long time in free agency before signing a one-year, $12 million deal with San Francisco.
Previously, Araez spent most of 2024 and all of 2025 with the San Diego Padres after he was traded by the Miami Marlins.
Where Could Arraez End Up?
Arraez is hitting .319 with two home runs and 26 RBI, so teams would be getting a quality bat who can get on base.
Arraez hit a career-worst .292 last season in San Diego, but he has picked it up so far this season.
The New York Yankees are one team that makes sense to try and acquire Arraez. And, who knows, maybe the Padres pick up the phone and see what it would take.
San Diego has not had success with Jake Cronenworth, and he has been on the IL. Fernando Tatis Jr. has slotted in at second base, and offseason acquisition Sung-Mun Song is hitting just .178 so far in his first MLB season.
Regardless, Arraez should be a popular trade chip, and his time in San Francisco is likely to come to an end by August 3.
