Latest Romy González Report is Discouraging for Red Sox
In the midst of their disappointing season, the Boston Red Sox will have to wait a little longer to get one of their injured players back.
Utility man Romy González's rehab is being paused after he experienced soreness in his hip flexor during a rehab game for Double-A Portland on Friday, per Chris Cotillo of Mass Live. He is out of the starting lineup for Portland tonight due to this setback. The Red Sox are reportedly "collecting more information" on the nature of González's setback.

González, who is rehabbing from left shoulder surgery he underwent in March, which shut him down from all spring training activities, first joined Portland this past week to commence a rehab stint with the hopes of returning to the Red Sox's lineup as soon as next week.
But after exiting his rehab game early last night after just two plate appearances, it doesn't appear he will be returning anytime soon.
The Red Sox have certainly missed González this season, who strung together an impressive second season in Boston last year. In a career-high 96 games in 2025, the 29-year-old slashed .305/.343/.483 with nine home runs, a career-high 53 RBI and an OPS of .826, also a career-best.
González's versatility was also on full display. He played 58 games at first base, 42 at second base, two at third base, and started five games as the designated hitter.

Boston will now have to wait a bit longer to get their utility man back in what has already been a lost season. The ballclub is also without Trevor Story, who underwent surgery for a sports hernia back in May, as well as Nick Sogard, who's on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
Despite snapping their four-game losing streak on Friday in their 6-2 win over the Seattle Mariners, the Red Sox still sit in last place in the AL East and are looking more and more like sellers at the trade deadline.
