As the sun set on Sacramento Sunday, the city wrapped up hosting the X Games for the first time.
The X Games, an international series of action sports events founded by ESPN, features some of the world’s best athletes in a variety of sports such as skateboarding, BMX and more. This weekend’s 3-day contest was Sacramento’s first time being host to the event and served as the first stop on the new MoonPay X Games League.
The event was an opportunity for Sacramento sports fans to see top level athletes including many Olympians. Three athletes with Northern California connections also participated in events on Sunday. Nikita Bucarroz, who competed in the Paris Olympics and grew up in Sonoma County, participated in the Women’s BMX Park event and Brady Baker, who now lives in Auburn, won a gold medal and silver medal in BMX Dirt and BMX Best Trick respectively.
This follows a win by another Northern California native, Nyjah Houston, who won a silver medal in men’s skateboard street on Saturday and placed last in the men’s skateboard street best trick on Sunday. Houston, who hails from Davis, told The Sacramento Bee he’s never competed closer to home than in this tournament.
Sunday featured events such as the men’s and women’s skateboard street event and the men’s and women’s BMX park event, among many others. The complete standings from the Sacramento X Games are available on their website.
