Tom Brady Reacts to Argentina's Incredible World Cup Comeback
Lionel Messi and Argentina mounted a stunning comeback against Egypt in their World Cup Round of 16 matchup on Tuesday, scoring three consecutive goals after trailing 2-0 in with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
Cristian Romero scored off an assist from Messi in the 79th minute. Four minutes later, Messi scored a goal of his own to tie the game at 2-2.
Enzo Fernandez scored a game-winning header in the second minute of stoppage time, giving Argentina their 3-2 final score.
This incredible comeback marks the first time in World Cup history that a team has come back from two goals down after the 75th minute.
Understandably, this comeback drew the attention of prominent figures around the sporting world: including all-time great American football player Tom Brady.
“Yeah so that might top 28-3,” Brady wrote on social media.
Brady led the New England Patriots to victory in Super Bowl LI, erasing a 28-3 third-quarter lead for the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots scored 31 unanswered points to secure a 34-28 final score in overtime - marking the largest comeback in Super Bowl history.
Messi and Argentina are in search of their second consecutive World Cup title. They’ll matchup against the winner of Columbia and Switzerland in the quarterfinals.
Messi currently leads all scorers in the World Cup with eight goals.
