The slate for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s return to Sacramento is beginning to take .

UFC on Tuesday announced six fights that will lead up to the main event between ranked middleweights Gregory Rodrigues and Yolo County native Anthony “Fluffy” Hernandez.

The “UFC Fight Night” event will kick off at 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at Golden 1 Center, with the main event scheduled to take center stage at 5 p.m. “Fight Night” will also be available to stream on Paramount Plus.

It will be the first UFC event in California’s capital region and at Golden 1 Center since July 13, 2019, another “Fight Night” which drew more than 10,000 spectators, according to previous Sacramento Bee reporting.

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster. UFC Fight Night members and UFC newsletter subscribers have the ability to buy tickets Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Who is fighting?

The title event features two fighters with different strengths and storylines heading into the fight.

No. 6 Hernandez (15-3) is known for his grappling ability, having nine wins by submission and a significantly higher takedown average than Rodrigues. Hernandez is also a local fighter, who grew up in Dunigan, an unincorporated town in north Yolo Count, about 11 miles southeast of Arbuckle.

No. 12 Rodrigues (19-6), of Brazil, is primarily a striker, having won 12 matches via knockout in his career.

Though he is higher ranked, Hernandez is coming off a third-round knockout he suffered to underdog Sean Strickland in February, while Rodrigues has won three straight fights, two in round-one knockouts.
