Stefon Diggs Drawing Major NFL Interest Weeks Before Training Camp: Report
Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs isn't the All-Pro pass-catcher he once was from 2018 to 2023, but he's still convinced he's got plenty left in the tank.
The 32-year-old WR is still a free agent after being released by the Patriots following the Super Bowl, but he's confident whichever team signs him is getting the best WR2 in the NFL.
"My opinion, I can compete with anybody," Diggs said in a video on his YouTube channel. "But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.
"There’s not a No. 2 on a team - let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away, name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes.' Then my last question is: Is he better than me?"
Diggs is coming off an 85-catch, 1,013-yard, four-touchdown season last year. It was the seventh 1,000-yard season of his career, and the seventh time he had 80 or more catches in a season.
Given his consistency, Diggs is seemingly a hot commodity just weeks before training camp, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
"At least five teams have been checking in on Diggs nearly two weeks out from camps," Fowler posted on X. "Also noted here: Diggs produced 1,000 yards in New England coming off ACL tear and playing about 55% of the snaps. He feels like he can be even better due to offseason training with no injury concern."
Fowler didn't name any teams explicitly interested in Diggs, however, a handful of teams that make sense as potential landing spots include the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders, who are the team linked to Diggs the most since the draft.
After parting ways with Deebo Samuel, Washington needs a solid complement opposite Terry McLaurin. The Commanders have Dyami Brown, Treylon Burks, and rookie third-round pick Antonio Williams currently competing for their WR2 job.
