Scotts Valley golfer Ashley Gettleman misses cut at 77th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship | Local Roundup

Scotts Valley golfer Ashley Gettleman narrowly missed the cut after two rounds of stroke play at the 77th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship in Durham, N.C.

Gettleman posted a 7-over-par 151 total at Old Chatham Golf Club. She opened with 75 on Monday and closed with 76 on Tuesday.

The cut line was 147. Six players will compete in a playoff for the final two spots into the Round of 64 match play on Wednesday.

Canada's Clairey Lin was the medalist during stroke-play to earn the No. 1 seed for match play. She shot a 13-under 131 total.

Gettleman, a Stevenson School alumna who is committed to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, shot 3-under-68 for medalist honors during qualifying at Stanford Golf Course on June 15.

Youth baseball

Little League Section 5 Tournaments: Three District 39 Little League All-Star champions - Aptos (Majors), Capitola-Soquel (11s), and Santa Cruz (10s) - open play in Section 5 Tournaments this week.

Aptos Little League is hosting the Majors Tournament, which features Aptos (D-39), Soledad (D-9), Los Gatos (D-12), Santa Teresa (D-59), and Los Altos (D-44).

Los Gatos opens against Santa Teresa on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and Aptos opens against Soledad on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Los Altos faces the Los Gatos-Santa Teresa on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The winner's bracket final is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m., and the championship is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. If the winner's bracket champion suffers its first loss Tuesday, the finalists will play again Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to determine which team advances to the NorCal Tournament at Chico Eastside Little League.

Capitola-Soquel (11s) opens against D-12 champion Los Gatos at Congress Springs Park in Saratoga on Thursday 5:30 p.m.

Santa Cruz (10s) opens against D-59 champ Gilroy (D-59) on Friday At Anderson Elementary in San Jose at 5:30 p.m.
