Regional Digest: Sac City, American River face off on football field
Sacramento City College will host crosstown rival American River in a regular-season finale today at Hughes Stadium at 1 p.m. with more than just second place in the Northern California Football Conference on the line.
An ARC win could ensure the Beavers a wild-card playoff berth in a new playoff format initiated to better determine a state champion. The California Community College Athletic Association playoffs start Nov. 22.
ARC (8-1) lost its No. 1 state ranking last week after a 31-28 loss to defending state champion Butte.
Led by quarterback Jason Samuels, Sac City (6-3) has bounced back from a 1-9 season in 2013.
