Sports Night: Tomsula benches Kaepernick

49ers: Gabbert to start Sunday against Falcons

Colin Kaepernick has started every game since replacing Alex Smith on Nov. 19, 2012, but he’ll watch Blaine Gabbert take over this Sunday when Atlanta visits the 49ers, who have lost six of their past seven games. “We’re evaluating everything right now,” coach Jim Tomsula said.

49ers trade Vernon Davis to Denver

Tight end Vernon Davis, whose production has dropped sharply in recent seasons, is headed to the undefeated Broncos. The 49ers dealt Davis to Denver for a sixth-round pick in 2017. The teams will also swap their sixth-and seventh-round picks in 2016.

Prep notes: Del Oro’s playoff hopes still alive

Despite an uncharacteristic 3-6 record, Del Oro can make the playoffs with a win over No. 10 Granite Bay this week. A win would give the Golden Eagles fourth place in the Sierra Football League and a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Check out The Bee’s Top 20, which welcomes newcomers Vista del Lago and Kennedy.

Kings: Depth will be tested in next two games without Cousins
