Kings: Two-game skid halted

DeMarcus Cousins has 31 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the Kings overcome a 14-point first-half deficit and defeat the Dallas Mavericks 112-98 on Monday at Sleep Train Arena. Cousins had missed the previous three games with a lower back strain.

Kings notes: Karl still tinkering with perimeter defense

Kings coach George Karl says he’s pleased with the defense of his big men but that the team’s guards need more of a presence on that end of the court.

49ers: Tomsula says team will need intensity for road games

The 49ers’ defense played well enough Sunday in a loss to Arizona, but San Francisco is allowing 464 yards and 35.2 points per game away from home this season. With the next two games on the road, coach Jim Tomsula says his team must bring its home-field intensity.

Hometown report: Former Sac State football coach delivers moving speech

John Volek was the keynote speaker for the annual Sac-Joaquin Section playoff football dinner, and among other points, the former Sacramento State football coach says players should consider becoming teachers and coaches.

Prep football: Rocklin’s big three seniors lead the way

Seniors Evyn Holtz, William Floyd and Wesley Preece have helped Rocklin High reach its second Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship game since 2009. The Thunder defeated Del Oro in that game and will meet the Golden Eagles again on Friday.
