Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone left Sacramento in 2014 without a job – fired by the Kings. Yet despite what many saw as a perplexing move, he also left Sacramento with the respect of many of his players, staffers and fans.

Kings: Cousins too much for Nuggets

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins has 37 points and 20 rebounds in a 116-110 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. The Kings escape with the win even after allowing a season-high 34 points off turnovers.

Republic FC coach Paul Buckle is eager for soccer to explode in this country. Local fans are eager for his team to move up to Major League Soccer. “These are exciting times – fantastic,” he says, while also knowing Republic FC needs to maintain a high level of play.

Hometown Report: Folsom High trio off to college soon

Folsom High School’s football team continues to make news. In December, left tackle Jonah Williams enrolled early at national champion Alabama. He will participate in spring drills for the defending national champions. Right tackle Kooper Richardson signed with UC Davis, and Bee Offensive Player of the Year Jake Jeffrey signed with Cal Poly.

Daytona 500: Two local drivers ready to start their engines

Matt DiBenedetto of Grass Valley is off the bubble and on the starting grid for his first Daytona 500. He joins another area driver, Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, in Sunday’s big race (10 a.m. Ch. 40).
