Furillo: Time to get excited about Sac State baseball

Sacramento State’s baseball team took two of three at Auburn, a team that made the NCAA Tournament last year. Next, they handled Northwestern State in a one-game stopover. Finally, they went into Baton Rouge, La., and stole a game from fifth-ranked LSU, the six-time NCAA champion coming off a fifth-place finish in the College World Series.

Sac State: Randle-El leads Hornets into Big Sky tournament

Sac State’s women enter this week’s Big Sky Conference basketball tournament in Reno on a decent roll, winning six of eight. Senior guard Adella Randle-El is a big reason for the Hornets’ success. The 5-foot-8 Randle-El leads the Hornets in scoring, rebounding, steals, assists and minutes.

NFL: Peyton Manning expected to retire Monday

Peyton Manning is retiring a champion. A month after Denver’s triumph in Super Bowl 50, Manning informed John Elway he is following his lead and riding off into that orange sunset just like the Broncos' boss did 17 years ago after winning his second Super Bowl. The Broncos scheduled a news conference for Monday.
