Sports Night: Warriors’ home streak ends

Warriors: Curry misses chance to tie in 109-106 loss to Celtics at Oracle Arena

Stephen Curry misses a long three-pointer to tie it with 5.3 seconds left, and the Golden State Warriors suffer their first home defeat in more than 14 months, losing 109-106 to the Boston Celtics on Friday night to end an NBA-record 54-game winning streak in the regular season at Oracle Arena.

Kings: Cousins serves suspension as Kings fall 112-106 to Heat

The Kings, without DeMarcus Cousins, trail by 24 points at one point in a 112-106 loss to the Miami Heat at Sleep Train Arena. Cousins served a mandatory one-game suspension from the NBA after being assessed his 16th technical foul of the season Wednesday.

Andy Furillo: Kings should keep Karl

George Karl’s coaching career in Sacramento likely will last only six more games, which is too bad. He knows more about winning than anybody around here. Karl didn’t beat cancer by being obtuse, and he’s no dummy when it comes to reading the Kings’ tea leaves and seeing the plot twist that pencils him out of the script. “Some days I wake up and I go, ‘I probably have no chance,’” he said.

A’s 2016 season preview: Battery is full charged

Right-hander Sonny Gray and catcher Stephen Vogt have meshed well enough to become one of the top batteries in the American League. Last year, they were the only starting pitcher-catcher combination from one team to make the A.L. All-Star squad. This season, they figure to play vital roles as the A’s try to improve on their last-place finish in 2015.

Republic FC: Goalkeeper’s career a save in itself

Dominik Jakubek’s journey to become Republic FC’s No. 1 goalkeeper has not been easy. At 36, he is the oldest player in the 29-team USL. Nevertheless, “This is the best job in the world, and it’s the most fun I have had,” he says going into Saturday’s home opener against Arizona United SC at Bonney Field (7:30 p.m., Ch. 31).

Final Four numbers crunch: Stadium could be tough on shooters

NRG Stadium in Houston, site of the Final Four, is more suited in size for football than basketball – which can skew depth perception for normally adept shooters. The numbers indicate there could be a lot of more misses than usual in Saturday’s semifinals. Villanova faces Oklahoma at 3 p.m., and Syracuse takes on North Carolina in the second game (both on TBS).
