Bickering, boorish behavior, low attendance and scrapping indicate that the Optimist All-Star Football Classic – designed to raise awareness and funds for disabled children – desperately needs a reboot. The game might have to return to December to thrive again.

Kings prepare for NBA draft without hosting top prospects

The Kings wrapped up their predraft workouts Monday without hosting a top prospect in Thursday’s NBA draft. The team will pick eighth, yet the top players projected to be available did not visit Sacramento. The highest-regarded prospect who worked out was Vanderbilt guard Wade Baldwin, projected to be taken in the middle of the first round.

Giants: Winning streak ends in 1-0 loss to Pirates

The Giants’ eight-game winning streak ended in improbable fashion. Jeff Locke followed consecutive horrible starts with 6 2/3 scoreless innings, and Erik Kratz hit his first home run since 2014 as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat Madison Bumgarner and the Giants 1-0 on Monday night.
