Horse sense: Karma’s been good to Arrington; Pajak’s Bow Tie dressed to impress
Bee staff writers and horse players Debbie Arrington and Steve Pajak are renewing their head-to-head bankroll battle during the State Fair. Each started with a hypothetical $500 for 10 racing days.
ARRINGTON SAYS
Sunday: Won $12 when New Karma won the ninth race.
Bankroll: $561
Today: In the maiden nightcap, MIDVALE MAGIC (eighth race) was bred to be good: By Lucky Pulpit out of the stakes-winning sprinter Gn. Group Meeting. In his last start, this 3-year-old gelding made a huge stretch move, tipping some ability.
The bet: $20 win/place on Midvale Magic; $2 exacta box Midvale Magic, Tentwelvefourteen and Rob’spepperedride.
Note to Steve: Congratulations on Sunday’s score, but you’ll need more than one winner to catch me.
PAJAK SAYS
Sunday: Won $81 when Bow Tie Belle won the sixth race.
Bankroll: $368
Today: I’m betting that the 12-horse field in the eighth race produces a big price. SKI UTAH is lightly raced with upside and is 30-1 on the morning line.
The bet: $15 win/place Ski Utah; $6 exacta box Ski Utah and Tentwelvefourteen.
Note to Debbie: Every rally starts with that first hit.
