Indians draft Sacramento State’s Nathan Lukes in seventh round

The Cleveland Indians selected Sacramento State junior outfielder Nathan Lukes in the seventh round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.

Lukes was the 214th player taken overall. The former Center High School standout is the sixth-highest Sac State draft pick in the Hornets’ NCAA Division I history dating to 1990.

In three seasons with the Hornets, the two-time all-Western Athletic Conference first team selection set a school record for hits with 244. Lukes batted .345 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs this past season. Lukes also stole 13 bases in 17 attempts and had a team-high seven outfield assists and 154 putouts with just one error.

Lukes hit .336 with nine home runs, 96 RBIs and 137 runs scored during his Sac State career.
