Sacramento State women’s basketball team ranks high in Big Sky preseason polls

The Sacramento State women’s basketball team is tied for second in the Big Sky Conference coaches’ preseason poll and is third in the media poll. Two media members picked the Hornets to finish first.

Defending Big Sky Conference champion Montana was picked to finish first and North Dakota second in both polls.

The Hornets, who return 12 players, are coming off their best Division I season. They were 18-16 overall and 13-5 in the Big Sky Conference.

▪ Sac State women’s volleyball team (15-2, 2-0), off to its best start in 20 years, plays Thursday night at Big Sky preseason No. 1 Idaho State (10-6, 2-0).

▪ The Sac State baseball team will open the season against the Southeastern Conference with three-game series at Auburn (Feb. 19-21) and LSU (Feb. 26-28).

LSU was ranked No. 1 in the country for much of the 2015 season and played in the College World Series.
