UC Davis’ Alyson Doherty named preseason All-Big West Conference
UC Davis senior forward Alyson Doherty has been named to the All-Big West Conference Preseason women’s basketball team, and the Aggies have been selected to finish sixth in the preseason media poll.
The 6-foot-3 Doherty ranked seventh in the Big West Conference last season in scoring (13.4 points), eighth in rebounding (6.4), second in field goal percentage (50.5) and fifth in free throw percentage (76.6). The Lake Forest native is a two-time All-Big West second team selection and was a member of the All-Big West Freshman Team.
Joining Doherty on the six-player team are reigning conference Player of the Year Brittany Crain and Annelise Ito of UC Riverside; Ashleigh Karaitiana of Hawaii; Raven Benton of Long Beach State and Mokun Fajemisin of UC Irvine.
Hawaii, last year’s Big West regular season champion, was selected to finish first with 147 points and 13 first-place votes. No. 2 UC Riverside, received 127 points and two first place votes.
Rounding out the field were No. 3 Cal Poly, No. 4. Northridge, No. 5 Long Beach State, No. 6 UCD, No. 7 Cal State Fullerton, No. 8 UC Irvine and No. 9 Santa Barbara. Cal Poly and Long Beach State each received a first place vote.
