UC Davis men, women fall in basketball openers

The UC Davis men’s basketball team appeared well on its way to a season-opening victory before North Dakota State went on a 19-2 run to win 79-71 in overtime Friday night at the Pavilion.

The Aggies squandered a nine-point lead with 2:10 left in regulation and were outscored 10-2 in overtime. Forward Josh Fox led four UC Davis players in double figures with 16.

Women

No. 16 Stanford 74, UC Davis 45 in Davis – The Aggies kept it close early but ended up falling to the powerful Cardinal.

UC Davis (0-1) trailed just 29-24 at the half to the Cardinal. But Stanford (1-0) outscored UCD 31-8 in the third quarter to put the game away.

Rachel Nagel led the Aggies with 18 points. Alyson Doherty added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
