Sac State women open season with win
Maranne Johnson tied her career high with 20 points Saturday as the Sacramento State women opened the season with a 95-86 win over Utah State in Logan Utah.
The Hornets took control with a 13-2 run spanning the third and fourth quarters for an 80-72 lead. They led by at least six the rest of the way.
Sac State, which outrebounded the opposition just four times last season, outrebounded the bigger Aggies 54-52. On the offensive end, the Hornets held a 35-18 rebounding advantage and converted those second chances into 35 points. Sac State also scored 27 points off 27 turnovers.
Gretchen Harrigan had 15 points, Adella Randle-El 14 and Brianna Burgos 11 for the Hornets.
