Sac State women’s basketball assistant departs for Glenville State

Sacramento State assistant women’s basketball coach Kim Stephens has been hired as head coach at Glenville State, her alma mater.

Stephens played for and coached with Sac State head coach Bunky Harkleroad at the Division II West Virginia college. She joined Harkleroad in California as his top assistant when he was hired by Sac State in 2013.

“Kim is part of the rich tradition at Glenville State College and will do a great job there without a doubt,” Harkleroad said in a release. “She’s been a big part of our program here and leaves big shoes to fill, but we’re excited for her and proud of her.”

Stephens, a 2011 Glenville State graduate, assisted with numerous aspects of the Sac State program, including travel, budget, on-court skill development and recruiting.

She also understood Harkleroad’s novel, up-tempo and record-setting style of play called “The System.”
