FIFA World Cup

Where might World Cup teams practice and stay in California? What to know

A total of six 2026 World Cup matches will be played in the Bay Area in Northern California. Where will the teams live and play during their visit to the Golden State?

The World Cup is coming to the United States, Canada and Mexico next summer.

Here’s what to know.

World Cup draws

FIFA last Friday held its official draw, placing 42 teams and six placeholder berths into 12 groups to help solidify the schedule for the tournament.

U.S. venues will host all six of the Group J matches during June — two in Santa Clara, two in Dallas and two in Kansas City.

Northern California will host a total of six matches in the World Cup, all at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Eight more matches will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles County.

Potential California base camps

Where will World Cup teams live and train while they prepare for their Northern California matches?

FIFA has posted a list of 64 potential hotels and base camps across all three host nations, including two in Northern California.

The first is the Claremont Resort & Club in Berkeley with the UCSF Health Oakland Roots & Soul Performance Center near Oakland International Airport.

The second is Signia by Hilton San Jose with the Spartan Soccer Complex at San Jose State University’s south campus.

The list also includes three recommendations in Irvine and Santa Barbara for teams playing in Los Angeles.

Where they ultimately decide to set up and camp and when, though, is entirely up to each individual team.
