McClatchy High School hosting parade for girls championship basketball team
McClatchy High School will host a parade Friday to celebrate the girls basketball team’s state basketball championship.
The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the school at 3066 Freeport Blvd, go south on Freeport Boulevard, go east on 7th Avenue, go south on 17th Street, proceed south on 17th Street onto 13th Avenue, then north on Freeport Boulevard to the finish at Cervantes Park at 11th Avenue.
The Lions beat Serra of Gardenia 65-61 on March 27 at Cal’s Haas Pavilion to win the CIF State Division I championship. The Lions became the first girls team in the Sacramento City Unified School District to win a state title in any sport.
The Lions also will be recognized by the Kings during Tuesday night’s celebration of local sports teams at Sleep Train Arena.
Other teams being honored by the Kings during Tuesday’s game against Minnesota: The Sacramento State men’s and women’s and the UC Davis men’s basketball teams for their record-breaking seasons; Republic FC for its USL Pro championship last season; and the River Cats, who open their first season as the Giants’ Triple A affiliate Thursday against the Salt Lake Bees.
