No. 19 Inderkum Tigers
City: Natomas
School opened: 2004
League: Capital Valley Conference
Division: ll
Enrollment: 2,317
2021 spring record: 3-3
Coach: Reggie Harris
Outlook: First-year Inderkum coach Reggie Harris is still adjusting to his new role. He was hired July 21 to head the storied program after Casey Taylor left after the spring season, his only season, to coach at Oak Ridge. This is Inderkum’s third coach in three seasons after longtime coach Terry Stark stepped down before the 2021 spring season.
“Terry Stark did a great job setting that foundation,” Harris said. “I just want to build upon it and be considered a pillar of the community.”
Less than a week after being hired, Harris met his players for the first time on July 26, which marked the first day of practice in the Sac-Joaquin Section.
“Everything is going well,” Harris said. “I’m hitting the ground running. No days off and no time wasted. Every minute has to count.”
Harris said on adjusting to a new environment, ”It’s only hard if you think it’s hard. It gets me motivated. You have to start putting the pieces together and start building positive and authentic relationships.”
Returners from last season include receiver Amani Pressley, defensive back Tanner Colvin, running back Jeremiah Tyes, linebacker Dexter Simmons Jr. and tight end Christian Sheppard. Those players helped Inderkum go 3-3 in the spring, highlighted by a 7-6 win over Yuba City in the season finale.
Inderkum open up the season on Aug. 20 against Elk Grove in what figures to be one of the toughest games of the year. Other nonconference games include Grant on Aug. 27, Cosumnes Oaks on Sept. 10 and Jesuit on Sept. 25.
