Prep football roundup: No. 13 beats upstart Laguna Creek for coach Miller’s first win
Just over a week after the Pleasant Grove High School football program was rocked by the abrupt resignation of popular coach Matt Costa, the Eagles scored one for their old coach and their new one.
Mason Corrigan rushed for three touchdowns and Devin Hall hit Jalen Kennedy for two touchdowns, including the 45-yard game-winner with just over five minutes remaining, to lift the No. 13 Eagles to a 35-31 win over Laguna Creek at Cosumnes River College.
Nate Miller is the interim coach for Pleasant Grove. He is a beer salesman by trade, a football lifer already after graduating from Casa Roble in 2000, where he got his coaching start. He has been with Pleasant Grove since 2019.
“Last week was one of the weirdest weeks I’ve been a part of in football,” Miller said. “First, coach Costa stepping away to deal with personal reasons, and then we had COVID issues that forced us to cancel our game against Christian Brothers. The staff and school administration was going to make sure that the ship stayed its course. The kids are an awesome bunch of young men that will pull together to achieve great things.”
