50th Holy Bowl, Oak Ridge-Elk Grove, Lincoln-Roseville highlight prep football schedule

Just like that, the season’s fourth week of the regional high school football season looms.

But don’t call any of it normal, not when storied Bear River has yet to kickoff due to poor air quality due to drift smoke from Northern California wildfires, or COVID or both, or that even more storied Elk Grove has played just once for the same concerns and issues - and just twice since winning the the 2019 Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship.

It was encouraging to see that only one game was canceled last week due to COVID testing issues, a week after 12 were canceled due to positives. Only a few games were called off due to smoke, but none in Sacramento, Placer or Yolo counties.

Top-ranked Folsom has a bye this week and has earned it after rolling past preseason Bee No. 2 Monterey Trail, No. 6 Jesuit and Northern California preseason No. 4 Pittsburg on Saturday.

All of these games are subject to change.
