Prep roundup: Elk Grove rallies; Rocklin, Folsom and Antelope stay perfect
No. 8 Elk Grove High School had to rally against No. 20 Sheldon to pull out a 42-35 home thriller on Friday night in a Delta League contest of star quarterbacks.
Ethan Archuleta accounted for four touchdowns and the Thundering Herd overcame a 21-6 deficit and the five touchdown-effort of Jesiah Machado to move to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Delta in a game that had all sorts of homecoming intrigue.
Machado is the younger brother of one-time Elk Grove All-Metro quarterback Jayden Machado. Sheldon coach Chris Nixon had a terrific 12-year head-coaching run at Elk Grove. Machado hit Devin Green for three touchdown passes for the Huskies (4-2, 2-1).
No. 1 Folsom 58, No. 9 Del Oro 6 in Loomis: Tyler Tremain threw six touchdown passes to six different Bulldog receivers — Walker Lyons, DJ Brown Jr., Lucas Wolfe, Rico Flores Jr., Greco Carrillo and Donovan Parler — as the Bulldogs rolled the Golden Eagles in Sierra Foothill League action. Tremain ran a score in and Wolfe returned a touchdown off a blocked punt by Caden Bienvenue for Folsom, which is 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Sierra Foothill League and plays host to decades-long Northern Californoa power De La Salle next.
No. 2 Rocklin 26, No. 4 Granite Bay 6 in Granite Bay: Filling in for the injured Kenny Lueth, Joey Roberts threw touchdown passes to Elias Mullican, Kale Larson and Nathan Kent as the Thunder rolled past the Grizzlies in an SFL contest. Anthony Johnston also ran in a short touchdown as the Thunder moved to 6-0.
No. 3 Jesuit 47, Franklin 16 in Elk Grove: Garrett McGriff scored two rushing touchdowns and Jackson Hagopian had a touchdown to lead the Marauders past the Wildcats in the Delta League.
No. 5 Vacaville 43, Fairfield 0 in Vacaville: Ryan Vaughn connected with Anthony Wiley on a 56-yard touchdown to open the game, and Wiley returned a punt for a score to lead the Bulldogs in a Monticello Empire rout of the Falcons. Darian Leon-Gurreo and Lucas Sartorio both had two touchdowns each as the Bulldogs improved to 4-2.
No. 7 Inderkum 21, No. 12 Woodcreek 17 in Roseville: Jayden Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes remaining and Christian Benham-Sheppard intercepted Woodcreek quarterback Garrett Krupp in the red zone to seal the Capital Valley Conference win. Inderkum is 4-1 and was coming off a 45-0 loss at Jesuit.
No. 10 Lincoln 28, Placer 0 in Auburn: Gabriel Burns rushed for three touchdowns and the Zebra’s recorded seven sacks in a Foothill Valley League opener. Friday marked Placer’s first shutout loss since 2007. Lincoln is 3-2.
No. 13 Antelope 62, Bella Vista 6 in Antelope: Curron Borders rushed for five touchdowns for the second game in a row as the Titans moved to 6-0. to set up a CVC showdown against Woodcreek.
No. 18 Monterey Trail 38, McClatchy 7 at Monterey Trail: Frank Arcuri rushed for three touchdowns, Ali Collier had a 1-yard scoring plunge and Uvante Usher returned a fumble into the end zone for a 38-0 third-quarter lead as the Mustangs won their first game in rolling in a Metropolitan League opener. Monterey Trail has losses to Northern California powers Folsom, De La Salle, Los Gatos and Clayton Valley Charter.
Laguna Creek 13, River City 0 at Cosumnes River College: Hayden Johnson passed for 187 yards and two touchdowns, both to Adam Gunning, who had five catches for 103 yards, as the Cardinals downed the Raiders in a Metropolitan League opener to move to 3-2.
Roseville 58, River Valley 34 in Roseville : Brandon Graydon rushed for 159 yards and scored six touchdowns to lead the Tigers in CVC action.
Casa Roble 71, Mesa Verde 7 in Orangevale: Cole Owens caught two touchdown passes from Jason Lindahl, returned an interception 60 yards for a score and had a 99-yard kickoff return into the end zone as the Rams rolled in a Golden Empire League game. Casa Roble pulled all starters at the half when it was 57-7. The Rams are 3-1.
Bradshaw Christian 36, El Dorado 7 in Placerville: Noah Darchuck returned the second-half kickoff 97 yards to give the Pride a 29-0 lead in a Sierra Valley Conference game. Bradshaw Christian led 8-0 after the first quarter and moved to 6-0.
Colfax 35, Center 0 in Colfax: The Falcons rolled the Cougars in a Pioneer Valley League game as coach Tony Martello won his 225th game, all with Colfax, where he graduated in 1982.
