Prep roundup: Sheldon bounces back, Elk Grove rolls, Roseville pulls biggest upset

A week after the wheels fell off on their home turf, the Sheldon Huskies bounced back to extend their season Friday night.

Devin Green rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns, he returned a fumble recovery for a score and hit Scott Nixon for the go-ahead touchdown pass with 7 minutes to play to power the No. 8-seeded Huskies past No. 9 Turlock 36-22 Friday night in a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoff game at Sheldon.

Nixon had 91 yards receiving and helped seal the game with an interception on defense, returning it to the 2-yard line to set up Green’s 1-yard touchdown. Sheldon (8-3) lost to Jesuit big in a regular-season finale last week but has earned a shot at top-seeded and unbeaten Rocklin next.

Del Oro 28, Enochs 21 in Loomis: Brandon Hill had a late tackle that led to a fumble that his team recovered as the No. 7 Golden Eagles held off the No. 10 Eagles of Modesto in a D-I opener. Del Oro led 28-7 after three quarters when Jakob Hamilton hit Aiden Parry for touchdown strikes of 50 and 56-yard touchdowns. Del Oro plays at No. 2-seeded Jesuit on Saturday.

Division II

Elk Grove 56, Gregori 6 in Elk Grove: The No. 6 Thundering Herd scored on their first six possessions, including four rushing scores by Zeke Burnett, to roll the No. 11 Jaguars of Modesto. Elk Grove and play at No. 3 Vacaville next.

Whitney 35, Inderkum 0 in Rocklin: Roman Floyd scored two touchdown catches from Jacob Smiley and had two goal-line interceptions, including a 98-yarder returned for a score, to lead the No. 5 Wildcats past the No. 12 Tigers.

Monterey Trail 39, Woodcreek 23 in Sacramento: Ali Collier rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns, Frank Arcuri had a 41-yard touchdown to Brevin Amiga and Daelin Ellis had TD runs of 1 and 10 yards as the No. 7 Mustangs topped the No. 10 Timberwolves in winning their sixth consecutive game. Monterey Trail next visits No. 2 Granite Bay.

Division III

Roseville 33, Grace Davis 21 in Modesto: Ricky Bastinelli rushed for 183 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the No. 9 Tigers past the previously unbeaten and 8th-seeded Spartans. Roseville visits top-seeded Oakdale next.

Christian Brothers 30, Rodriguez 16 in Oak Park: Jake Elorduy hit Marcus Price for two touchdown passes and he found freshman Phillip Bell for a 91-yarder to lead the No. 7 Falcons past the No. 10 Mustangs of Fairfield. Christian Brothers visits No. 2 Lincoln next.

Division IV

Placer 63, West Park 28 in Auburn: Lavelle Davis rushed for four touchdowns and Gage Parada had a scoring run to power the No. 6 Hillmen past the No. 11 Panthers in a shootout. Placer visits No. 3 Vista del Lago next. For West Park, completing its first varsity season, Develle Barksdale passed for 268 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 232 and two scores.

Dixon 29, Ponderosa 20 in Dixon: Brenden Baumbach rushed for three touchdowns and Kanye Smith returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the No. 7 Rams past the No. 10 Bruins for the program’s first playoff win since 2008 and just the third since 1974. Dixon next plays at No. 2 Vanden.

Division V

Casa Roble 51, El Camino 34 in Orangevale: Josh Taylor rushed for 267 yards and five touchdowns and Jason Lindahl ran for 97 and two to power the No. 7 Rams past the No. 10 Eagles to set up a showdown at No. 2 Union Mine.

Woodland 22, Colfax 19 in Woodland: Santana Munoz hit Josh Pigge for the go-ahead touchdown as the No. 8 Wolves slipped past the No. 9 Falcons to earn a shot at top-seeded Escalon. Woodland beat Colfax 20-10 on Aug. 27.

Division VI

Rosemont 49, Delhi 13 at Rosemont: Jojo Ortiz scored three touchdowns and accounted for 215 yards, Wayshawn Parker rushed for two scores and had 13 tackles, and Kegan Hill had a defensive strip and returned it 40 yards for a score. He also caught a 45-yard touchdown from Ortiz as the No. 5 Wolverines raced past the No. 12 Hawks.
