Sacramento Charter star sophomore basketball player transfers to Prolific Prep

Another one of the Sacramento area’s best high school basketball players has left his school to play at Prolific Prep in Napa.

Sophomore guard Ben Roseborough of Sacramento Charter High School will enroll as a student at Napa Christian School, which is the school all Prolific Prep student-athletes attend.

Roseborough is one of the most coveted players in his class. As a freshman, he received scholarship offers from Arizona, Washington State and San Francisco. He left Sacramento during the Christmas break and appeared in a Prolific Prep uniform last week. He averaged 22.3 points in six games last season.

Prolific Prep is a private basketball academy that opened in 2014. It’s already produced several NBA players, including Jalen Green and Gary Trent Jr. Because it is not a high school sanctioned by the state governing body, the CIF, Prolific Prep essentially cannot compete against high school teams in California.

Sacramento recently completed its nonleague schedule with a 6-4 record. The Dragons start league play Wednesday night against Vista Del Lago.

Roseborough is at least the fourth area player to go to Prolific Prep in the last three years. The others include Woodcreek’s Jordan Brown, Antelope’s Coleman Hawkins and Jesuit’s Isa Silva.

Silva during the summer of 2020 decided to enroll at Prolific Prep while remaining as a student at Jesuit. He left before playing a game at Prolific Prep and returned to Jesuit for the shortened spring basketball season.
