Bee’s Best: Amrin Mann of Sutter wins Boys’ Prep of the Week vote
Amrin Mann is the main man for his Sutter Huskes basketball team.
The 5-foot-11 junior guard is a team captain, tasked with leadership and getting teammates the ball, or scoring. Mann can certainly score. He had games of 21, 30 and 22 points in his last three outings, thus earning Prep of the Week honors through fan online voting. He generated more than 15,000 votes, so ice cream for all his family and friends, at the very least.
Mann has always been a scorer. He can make buckets in the lane, on layups, from mid range or long range, and he averages 21.9 points to go with 2.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals for the Huskies of the Northern Section. He is second in that section in scoring this season, trailing Leo Trujillo of Williams, a junior forward averaging 24.5 points. Sutter will join the Sac-Joaquin Section starting in the fall for all sports.
As a freshman on the junior varsity team at Sutter, Mann averaged 23.0 points. As a sophomore on varsity during the shortened spring season, he scored 15.1 points. This season, Mann has produced scoring efforts of 28 against Turlock Christian, 32 against Los Molinos, 25 against Wheatland, 49 against Corning and 30 against Gridley.
Sutter is fighting for a playoff berth and rests at 5-4 in the Butte View League and 10-14 overall, trailing Las Pluas, Orland and Oroville in league play entering game action Friday.
