Monterey Trail lands player of great impact: Are transfers ruining prep sports?

Transfers. It’s a way of life for high school sports in California, for better or worse.

It’s also not anything new. Social media makes it more prevalent, and as bad as we may feel that in the Sacramento region kids are switching schools for athletic purposes, it’s a trickle compared to the avalanche of student movement in Southern California. Still, a transfer can impact programs.

Our motto is simple: Stay put. Go to your neighborhood school. At the least, don’t make it a habit, and also, it’s not fair to blame the kid. He or she isn’t the one making all of these decisions.

In this video, Sacramento Bee writer Joe Davidson breaks down how the Ben Roseborough move from Sacramento High School to Prolific Prep in Napa and now to Monterey Trail in the Elk Grove Unified School District leaves a profound impact.
