Elk Grove Unified dismisses coach for acting ‘inappropriately’ to Florin football player

A Florin High School assistant football coach was fired last week after a physical incident with a player.

The Elk Grove Unified School District said in a statement of its member school, “After a thorough investigation, the staff member was found to have acted inappropriately toward a student and was relieved of their duties.”

The incident took place in an after-school study hall session on campus, according to sources familiar with the incident. The assistant coach was not an on-campus teacher. Sources said the student, a junior defensive back, dozed off during study hall and had his head on a table when the former assistant woke him up by striking him. The mother of the boy told KCRA she wants to press charges for the incident.

Florin has struggled on the field over the years, winning two games since the 2018 season. Davis told The Bee, “We are making head ways with lots of improvements week to week.”
