Bee’s Best: Cole Owens of Casa Roble wins Prep of Week

Cole Owens left a lasting impression last Friday against Wood High School of Vacaville.

The Casa Roble junior receiver caught five passes from Connor Campbell for 222 yards and four touchdowns, and he broke up two passes from his defensive back spot to highlight a 50-0 rout of the Wildcats last week.

Owens won The Bee’s Prep of the Week vote, which generated nearly 148,000 total votes. He then earned more praise from his Casa Roble coach, who calls his star, “Cyborg.”

“He’s a coach’s dream,” Chris Horner said. “Let’s his play do the talking for him. When he scores, he acts like he’s been there before. Hands the ball to the official and gets back at it. Hardest working dude on the team. Leads by example and has a 3.4 grade-point average.”

The coach added, “Oh, he’s really good at football. Both sides of the ball.”

Casa Roble (1-1) plays Friday night at Lincoln (2-0) in Placer County.
