Bee’s Best: Mojica, Weaver are The Bee’s Prep of the Week winners

Mateo Mojica and Elle Weaver are The Bee’s Prep of the Week winners from a voting poll that generated a total of nearly 150,000 total votes.

Mojica is a 5-foot-7, 200-pound sophomore running back for Bradshaw Christian who rushed 11 times for 101 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-0 nonleague win at Ygnacio Valley of Concord.

Weaver is a powerful junior outside hitter from Oak Ridge, who had 13 kills in a Sierra Foothill League victory over Del Oro. She has been paramount in her team’s 22-3 season that includes a 5-0 showing in the Sierra Foothill League.

Mojica received more than 41,000 votes in a poll that generated nearly 18,000 votes. Weaver pulled in more than 13,000 votes in a poll that totaled 31,286 votes in the vote-as-often-as-you’d like poll.

Bradshaw Christian is 4-0 in football and opens Sierra Valley Conference action on Friday at Union Mine in El Dorado. Mojica has rushed for 363 yards, averaging 8.9 yards per carry, with seven touchdowns.

Weaver has a team-best 209 kills for Oak Ridge, which plays a nonleague match at Christian Brothers on Tuesday.
