Some 30 years ago, Sacramento Bee All-Metro football teams included a talent pool of about 60 regional schools.

There are now nearly 100 schools in The Bee’s coverage area, reflective of the population explosion in Elk Grove, Placer County and up the Highway 50 corridor. There are terrific talents from the largest-enrollment schools such as Folsom and Oak Ridge right on down to the best of the small schools, such as Bradshaw Christian, Bear River and Colfax.

Our preseason All-Metro team list includes The Bee’s reigning Player of the Year in five-star quarterback star Ryder Lyons of the Folsom Bulldogs, the finest area sophomore we have ever witnessed and covered locally, and he’s just now warming up. Grant Pacers defensive end Jeremiah Tuiileila, The Bee’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is also back, similarly driven, respected by his player peers and feared by opponents.

QB Ryder Lyons, Folsom, 6-3, 215, Jr.

Lyons was masterful in leading the Bulldogs on a late drive to win a CIF state championship in 2023, and all he could do afterward was credit teammates and coaches. Accounted for 5,507 yards and 61 touchdowns for a 13-2 team.

RB Carter Jackson, Folsom, 5-11, 175, Sr.

Is there a better/quicker home-run backfield threat in Northern California than the Nevada-bound Jackson? A star from Folsom youth programs is back for his final hurrah.

WR Elijah Huddle, Casa Roble, 6-3, 170, Sr.

Headed to Sacramento State, Huddle is a big-time playmaker who plays in the secondary. Was voted by his teammates to be a team captain.

WR Lono Chouteau, Inderkum, 6-4, 195, Sr.

Long, lanky, quick and with good hands, Chouteau averaged 22.6 yards per catch and had 16 TDs in 2023. Could be the program’s greatest WR.

WR Jameson Powell, Folsom, 5-10, 160, Jr.

Flourished as a sophomore with 1,231 yards and 14 TDs with multiple college offers. High energy and highly regarded by his coaches.

Folsom Bulldogs guard Kenny Redhead (54) lifts wide receiver Jameson Powell (9) in the air after he scores a touchdown in the second half of the CIF Sac-Joaquin division I section football semi finals playoff game on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at Folsom High School.

A three-star prospect bound for Sacramento State, Moore provided muscle for the Tigers of Roseville during a 10-3 season.

Produced 49 tackles, 15 for loss, and 10 sacks for a team that nearly toppled Folsom in the D-I playoffs.

DL Darren Dalton, Casa Roble, 6-4, 290, Sr.

A returning All-Metro force in the trenches is “the best kept secret in Sacramento,” coach Chris Horner said.
