Friday night’s scores and next week’s schedule for Sacramento-area high school football

What’s the early high school football season in the Sacramento region without a heat advisory from the National Weather Service?

Scores of regional games were pushed back 30 minutes or more Friday to allow for the temperatures to dip. Some schools canceled junior varsity contests due to heat concerns, including River City of West Sacramento against Del Campo. On the field, there was plenty to discuss, including the following games:

A new era for Destiny Christian Academy, which went by Capital Christian from 1977 until June before the church changeover. The Lions hosted the Linden Lions, and The Bee was there.

Whitney of Rocklin visited the new kids on the block, Twelve Bridges of Lincoln, located 1½ miles apart, in a nonleague clash in what figures to be a spirited rivalry. The Bee was there.

Old school Roseville, which opened in 1912, played newer-school West Park of the same city. The Bee was there.

At venerable Hughes Stadium, two schools known for their academic prowess are trying to get football going as McClatchy played Rio Americano. The Bee was there.
