Player of the Week: Elijah Orr, Grant
Elijah Orr, Grant
Elijah Orr of Grant High School wears No. 11, continuing a decades-long family tradition. Orr’s mother, Tia Orr, wore No. 11 when she played softball at Christian Brothers and UC Davis in the 1990s, and his uncle, Mark Orr, wore the number at CBS as a standout running back who earned a scholarship to Cal and is now the athletic director at Saint Mary’s College. The trailblazer was Tiger Orr, Elijah’s great grandfather, who wore the number at McClatchy in the late 1940s and was inducted into that school’s Hall of Fame on Saturday. A crowd of Orrs, including his father, Greg, a longtime New York Yankees scout, was on hand as Orr – The Bee’s Player of the Week in voting on sacbee.com – had 16 tackles, three sacks and an interception in No. 2 Grant’s 56-7 victory over Pleasant Grove last Friday.
