Friday night’s scores and next week’s schedule for Sacramento-area high school football

League play kicked off Friday night across the Sacramento region in high school football, after a month’s worth of early games in the can to prepare for the real action.

It included:

Top-ranked Folsom hosted No. 2 Rocklin in the Sierra Foothill League, a battle of defending CIF Sac-Joaquin Section champions. The Bee was there.

Jesuit hosted Granite Bay in another Sierra Foothill League contest as the Marauders enter the section’s top conference after decades in the Delta League. Jesuit is basking in permanent stadium lights for the first time since the school opened in Carmichael in 1963. The Bee was there.

The storied Elk Grove Thundering Herd hosted rival Franklin, off to a 4-0 start, in Delta League action. What’s the latest on the players who transferred to Elk Grove from Valley High’s folded program due to low roster numbers? The Bee was there.

In Galt for a Sierra Valley Conference opener, the host Liberty Ranch Hawks welcomed fellow upstart Union Mine of El Dorado. Liberty Ranch features a star running back, and UM offers a stout defense. The Bee was there.
