Friday night’s scores for Sacramento-area high school football as the CIF playoffs kick off

At long last, the real fun kicked off, the opening-round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs.

Eighty-four teams out of the 200 that make up the second largest of the 10 sections dotted across California reached the postseason, spanning seven divisions. Division I has the largest-enrollment schools and Divisions VI and VII the smallest.

The top four seeds earned opening-round off-night byes.

Pleasant Grove of the Elk Grove Unified School District played at Granite Bay in Placer County in Division I. The Bee was there.

Also in D-I, Monterey Trail of the EGUSD hosted the Lincoln Trojans of Stockton at Mark Macres Memorial Stadium. The Bee was there.

In D-II, No. 8-seeded Elk Grove hosted the Kimball Jaguars of Tracy. The Bee was there.

In D-III in Roseville, No. 8-seeded Woodcreek hosted No. 9 Armijo of Fairfield, the Royals competing in the first playoff game in program history (the playoffs began in 1972 and Armijo opened in Solano County in 1891). The Bee was there.

In D-V play in Orangevale, the defending champion Casa Roble Rams hosted the Foothill Mustangs in another festive atmosphere, the norm over the years under coach Chris Horner. The Bee was there.
