The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section baseball playoffs start Wednesday at home sites with teams spread across seven divisions looking to win a prized blue banner.

Section finalists advance to the Northern California Regional rounds.

Sacramento Bee No. 1-ranked Rocklin, winner of the stacked Sierra Foothill League, earned the No. 2 seed in the large-school Division I bracket. St. Mary’s of Stockton is the top seed, having beaten Rocklin last month in the finals of the prestigious Boras Tournament, a quasi-NorCal championship event.

The D-I field is so deep that a team that was ranked in the top three all season by The Bee is just the No. 3 seed. That’s Franklin of Elk Grove. The SFL otherwise dominates this bracket and tops the D-II bracket. Other SFL teams in the D-I field include No. 4 seeded Davis, No. 5 Granite Bay and No. 6 Oak Ridge.

Metro League champion McClatchy is the No. 7 seed.

McClatchy Lions baseball coach Michael de Necochea watches his team take an early lead against the Grant Pacers in April. The Metro League champions are the No. 7 seed in Division I.

In Division II, SFL members Jesuit and Whitney are the top two seeds, respectively. Elk Grove of the Delta League is the No. 3 seed, Capital Valley Conference champion Woodcreek is the 4 seed and Del Oro of the SFL is the No. 5 seed.

In Division III, two-time defending section and NorCal champion Oakmont is the top seed under retiring coach Paul Martinez, followed by No. 2 West Park of Roseville of the Metro League, No. 3 Yuba City of the Foothill Valley League and No. 4 Christian Brothers, which placed second in the CVC behind Woodcreek.

In Division IV, top-seeded Bradshaw Christian of Sacramento seeks a third consecutive section banner and the program’s third NorCal title in four years. No. 2 Oakdale tied Central Catholic of Modesto for the Valley Oak League championship, No. 2 Roseville is from the deep FVL, and Golden Empire League champion Sutter is the No. 4 seed.

In Division V, top-seeded Lincoln of Placer County is paced by Bee Player of the Year candidate Landyn Plaut, who has a .500 batting average, a section-leading 14 home runs and 42 RBI and is 6-3 on the mound with a 1.03 earned-run average.

In Division VI, Bear River and ace pitcher Kaden Nichols (7-3, 1.06 ERA) are the top seed, opposite of defending champion and second-seeded Woodland Christian.

In Division VII, small schools Turlock Christian and Vacaville Christian earned the top two seeds, respectively.

Full brackets, ticket information and more are available via the CIF section website.
