Bee’s Best: Which Sacramento-area high school football players dazzled last week?
The Sacramento Bee hands out game balls in spirit for superlative efforts, be it passing, rushing, receiving or for tackles.
Here were some of the standouts from Week 6.
Kody Lowe, Lincoln
The senior linebacker was a tackling machine against Bear River in a Pioneer Valley League contest, making 18 stops in a 28-27 victory.
That moved the Zebras to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Jack Walker, Roseville
The senior linebacker had eight tackles, two sacks and scored the only touchdown in an 8-0 win over Yuba City.
That moved the Tigers to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Foothill Valley League.
Cordell Radcliffe, Sacramento
The sophomore rushed 26 times for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and he had three catches for 69 yards, to power the Dragons of Oak Park past Rodriguez of Fairfield 45-18.
Sacramento is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Monticello Empire League
Jayson Williams, Grant
In his first game of the season, the Elk Grove transfer rushed seven times for 147 yards and two touchdowns to help spark a 42-6 win over Destiny Christian Academy.
That was a Metro League opener for the defending Metro League champions.
Ryder Lyons, Folsom
The senior quarterback overcame a gimpy ankle and a fierce pass rush to pass for 304 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in a 28-9 win over Oak Ridge in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown.
Folsom is 2-0 in the Sierra Foothill League.
Logan Wolhers, Rosemont
The senior completed 14 of 19 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns to guide the Wolverines of Sacramento to a 49-22 win over Union Mine.
The team is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in league play a year after going 1-9.
Niko Chatzis, Rio Americano
The junior do-all talent had 113 yards of receiving and kickoff-return yards.
He also had a 40-yard interception return to set up a score in the Raiders’ 35-28 win over Bella Vista.
Joseph Franklin, Wheatland
The junior quarterback passed for 282 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions, and he rushed seven times for 78 yards and a score in a 51-33 win over Colfax.
That Pioneer Valley League win moved the Pirates to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Cohen Dwyer, Woodland
The sophomore receiver caught nine passes from Joe Abarca for 266 yards and two scores in a 26-21 win over Natomas.
That was the first victory of the season for the Wolves of Yolo County. Abarca passed for 304 yards and four scores.
Isaiah Ene, Granite Bay
The senior, fourth-year starter rushed 30 times for 204 yards and a touchdown, and he had an interception in a 14-13 win over Del Oro.
That moved Granite Bay to 2-1 in the Sierra Foothill League.
Trey Wallace, Cordova
The junior quarterback passed for 132 yards and rushed 14 times for 161 yards and four scores in a 34-32 win over McClatchy.
That moved the Lancers to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Xavier Balderas, Foothill
The junior quarterback completed all eight of his passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for a score in a 58-31 win over Johnson.
That was a Greater Sacramento League opener for Foothill, which is 3-4.
Jackson Hanan, West Park
The senior completed 11 of 16 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns, and he ran for a score in the Panthers’ 42-7 win over Antelope.
That moved West Park to 3-0 in Metro League play.
Danny Sanchez-Harlow, Placer
The senior running back rushed seven times for 143 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-26 win over Del Campo.
The Foothill Valley League effort moved the Hillmen to 4-2 overall.
Jaylan Barcenas, Casa Roble
The senior running back rushed 19 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns, and he caught a 38-yard scoring strike from Aidan Lopez.
The Rams moved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Golden Empire League.
Dennis Warden, El Dorado
In his first game of the season, the junior linebacker had nine tackles, two for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble-recovery for a touchdown in 41-0 win over Galt.
That was the first the team’s first Sierra Valley Conference victory.
Out for 2025: Isaac Pierce, Joseph Eyerman
Juniors Pierce and Eyerman did not play last week and will not the rest of the season after sustaining injuries.
Pierce is a receiver/defensive back star for Oak Ridge who has been sidelined after taking an inadvertent cleat to the pancreas against Granite Bay on Sept. 26. He watched last week’s Folsom-Oak Ridge game from his hospital bed on the streaming NFHS Network.
Eyerman is a running back grinder for Folsom, who sustained a torn knee ligament against Rocklin. He pushed back reconstructive surgery to watch Folsom defeat Oak Ridge 28-9, from the sideline, on crutches and in uniform.
