Bee’s Best: Which Sacramento-area high school football players dazzled last week?

The Sacramento Bee hands out game balls in spirit for superlative efforts, be it passing, rushing, receiving or for defensive plays.

Here were some of the standouts from Week 7.

Adam Amatangelo, Colfax

The sophomore quarterback completed 11 of 17 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns, two to Josiah Rubidoux, in a 48-34 win over Center.

That was the first Pioneer Valley League win of the season for the Falcons.

Dylan Amos, Twelve Bridges

The junior two-way starter caught three passes from Connor Frontiera, including a 53-yard scoring strike. He added two interceptions on defense to go with six tackles in a 49-24 win over Placer.

The 7-0 Raging Rhinos are 2-0 in the Pioneer Valley League.

Marshall Alvernaz, Ponderosa

The senior running back rushed 13 times for 88 yards and three touchdowns, and he made three tackles in a 49-28 win over Christian Brothers.

The Bruins of Shingle Springs are 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Capital Valley Conference.

Frank Cady, Highlands

The junior backup quarterback has filled in nicely for injured four-year starter Walter Lewis, and he completed 31 passes for 433 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-34 loss to Lindhurst in a Sierra Delta League contest.

Devion Corley, Pioneer

The senior running back/defensive back rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns, made four tackles and returned an interception 45 yards for a score in a 43-21 win over Wood of Vacaville.

The Patriots moved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Monticello Empire League.

Dominik Davis, Antelope

The senior linebacker had six tackles, three for a loss, and two sacks to lead the defensive charge in the Titans’ 42-8 victory over Cordova.

Antelope moved to 2-1 in the Metro League.

Luke De Lyser, Jesuit

The senior linebacker made the play of his football life, yanking away the ball from an Oak Ridge ball carrier and racing 82 yards for a late touchdown to seal a 28-14 victory over the Trojans.

That moved the Marauders to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Sierra Foothill League.

Eric Eaton, Casa Roble

The senior defensive back returned two interceptions for touchdowns (and teammate Felix Rodriguez had a pick-six, too) in a 57-6 win over Natomas.

The Rams improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Golden Empire League.

Dylan Eddings, Vacaville Christian

The senior quarterback completed four passes, three of them for touchdowns, and he rushed seven times for 191 yards and three scores, averaging 27.3 yards per carry, in a 60-26 win over Delta.

The Falcons moved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in their 8-man league.

Ethan Friedel, Rio Vista

The sophomore running back rushed 30 times for 356 yards and seven touchdowns in a 65-32 win over Mesa Verde.

The Rams are 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Sierra Delta League.

D’marcis Gresham, Roseville

The senior running back rushed 12 times for 95 yards, averaging 8 yards a carry, and a touchdown to lead set the team’s rushing tone in a 28-3 win over Nevada Union.

The 6-1 Tigers moved to 2-0 in the Foothill Valley League.

Josiah Melendez, Woodcreek

The senior quarterback completed 10 of 15 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns, and he rushed six times for 108 yards and a 75-yard score in a 45-14 win over Vista del Lago.

The 7-0 Timberwolves are 4-0 in the Capital Valley Conference.

Alphonso Moore Jr., Elk Grove

The sophomore running back rushed 18 times for 279 yards and an 80-yard touchdown sprint, and he was in on four tackles in a 28-7 win over Laguna Creek.

The Thundering Herd moved to 2-1 in the Delta League.

Vincent Navarro, Foresthill

The senior running back carried the ball 23 times for 178 yards and four touchdowns to power the Foresthill Widlfires of Placer County to a 23-6 win over Valley Christian of Roseville in 8-man Sacramento Metro Athletic League action.

Foresthill moved to 6-0 on the season with Navarro scoring 18 times.

Blake Nycum, Grant

The junior quarterback in his first game for the Pacers this season completed 12 of 19 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, two to Koby Shabazz, to key a 38-3 win over West Park.

The defending Metro League champions are 2-0 in conference games.

Mason Volzer, Lincoln

The sophomore two-way player rushed for two touchdowns and caught two scoring strikes from Eli Duff in a 49-31 win over Oakmont.

Zebras moved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pioneer Valley League.
