The Roseville Tigers would have preferred to play Saturday’s CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship clash closer to their Placer County roots, but it’s hard to argue the results now.

The Tigers repeated as Division IV champions with another superb pitching effort by Tyler Ritter and timely hitting from an experienced lineup, beating the Central Catholic Raiders of Modesto, 4-1, at Cosumnes River College in south Sacramento. The Tigers a year ago won the banner at Sacramento City College, which was full this week with title games in Division I, II and III.

Headed to UC Davis on scholarship, Ritter on Saturday pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out 10 to improve his seasonal mark to 10-0. His ERA is 0.70.

In the third inning, Brett Reager ripped a three-run double to center field, and Vanderbilt-bound pitcher Ethan Gustus sealed it in relief as the Tigers extended their winning streak to 11, improving to 27-4 overall.

Jacob Welch, Ashton Chang, Devin Johnson and Preston Cubbler each had a hit and scored a run for Roseville, which will compete in the CIF Northern California tournament that starts June 2 at home sites.

Only the winners of Divisions IV, V, VI and VII advance to the NorCal rounds, so Central Catholic’s season ends at 24-8. Kayden McHenry struck out 10 for Central Catholic, allowing six hits, four earned runs and walking five.
