The Bee’s top five high school football teams scored impressive opening-night victories, facing teams near and far. A closer look:
No. 1 Folsom, 27, Clayton Valley Charter 26 at Folsom – The Bulldogs rallied to beat the Ugly Eagles of Concord in the first meeting between the state powers. Tre Green scored on a 19-yard run with 1:12 to play for Folsom. He also had a 1-yard score, and Jake Jeffrey hit Roger Neal for a 10-yard touchdown as the Bulldogs extended their regular-season winning streak to 32 games.

No. 2 Grant 50, No. 10 Burbank 14 in Del Paso Heights – The Pacers’ Deshawn Collins rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns and returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score. Grant’s Mike Green ran for 121 yards and one touchdown, and David Moala had 14 tackles.
No. 3 Del Oro 41, Pleasant Grove-Utah 0 in Loomis – Stone Smartt hit Colorado-bound wide receiver Trey Udoffia for scoring strikes of 40 and 39 yards, Bryan Willhide boomed two field goals, and Mason Hurst had two interceptions in the rout of Utah’s No. 3-ranked team.
No. 4 Elk Grove 38, Reno 7 in Elk Grove – Ryan Robards rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns and had a 40-yard field goal as the Thundering Herd pulled away after a 7-7 halftime tie. Dylan Eldred had two interceptions, one for a touchdown, for Elk Grove.
No. 5 Rocklin 63, Pleasant Grove 14 in Rocklin – Evyn Holtz rushed for four touchdowns, William Floyd threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another, and Van Calhoun rushed for two touchdowns for the Thunder.
No. 7 Oak Ridge 57, Whitney 55 in El Dorado Hills – Michael Pittman rushed for four scores and Ian Book had two touchdown passes for the Trojans, who survived eight total scores by Whitney quarterback Hunter Rodrigues.
No. 8 Franklin 30, Clovis North 24 at Cosumnes Oaks – Lamar Jackson tossed a halfback option scoring pass and Jake Lopez had two touchdown passes for the Wildcats.
No. 12 Granite Bay 21, No. 6 Jesuit 7 in Granite Bay – Ryan McIntosh returned an interception for a score, boomed a 62-yard punt and had two others land inside the Marauders’ 5 to give first-year coach Jeff Evans his first victory. Sam Cusano returned an interception 40 yards for a score for Granite Bay.
No. 9 Inderkum 71, Fairfield 6 in Fairfield – Raekwon Turner rushed for 85 yards and had three total scores, Trajon Cotton accounted for three scores, and Isaiah Crocker had a dazzling 72-yard interception return for a score for the Tigers.
No. 11 Antelope 28, Monterey Trail 0 in Antelope – Montel Aaron tossed two touchdown passes, and the defense bottled up the Mustangs’ veer attack.
No. 13 Placer 43, Nevada Union 7 in Grass Valley – Marcus Ante threw four first-half touchdown passes, including strikes of 80 and 76 yards to Owen Scott, for the Hillmen.
No. 16 Cosumnes Oaks 20, Marin Catholic 0 in Kentfield – Austin Greer hit Christian McFarland for a 10-yard touchdown, and McFarland and Dante Davis added short touchdown runs for the Wolfpack.
No. 18 Christian Brothers 48, River City 9 at Hughes Stadium – The Falcons’ Jamarri Jackson scored on a 40-yard punt return, a 14-yard interception return, a 42-yard run and a 34-yard reception from Braeden Bourke, who had three touchdown passes.
No. 19 Del Campo 63, Edison-Stockton 14 in Fair Oaks – Ben Purcell threw six touchdown passes and Javone Jackson scored two touchdowns, on a 75-yard run and a 12-yard reception, as the Cougars rolled to victory.
No. 20 Capital Christian 28, Rio Americano 12 in Rosemont – Jaysson Taylor rushed for touchdowns of 70 and 5 yards, and Jacob Norville threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Jack Haney to lead the Cougars.
Cordova 48, Pioneer 14 in Woodland – The Lancers’ Unique Perez passed for 264 yards and five touchdowns, three to Devin Baldwin of 60, 33 and 39 yards.
Colfax 35, Argonaut 18 in Colfax – Luke Rineer rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, and Austin Weir threw three touchdown passes for the Falcons.
Union Mine 52, Foothill 27 in El Dorado – The Diamondbacks’ Cruz Rodriguez and Trevor Reed returned interceptions 20 and 23 yards, respectively, for touchdowns.
Woodcreek 21, Vintage 3 in Roseville – Anthony Mahr and Tyler England combined for three rushing touchdowns for the Timberwolves.
Highlands 65, Mesa Verde 39 in North Highlands – Isaiah Tennette rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns and passed for two for the Scots.
