The mother of the Del Oro football player who died in a car accident last week said Wednesday she was grateful for the support from the community.
Fatima Galindo’s son, Ronny Andrews, 18, died Jan. 16 when his car lost control and struck a tree while traveling north on Park Drive near Villa Serena Circle in Rocklin. Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene, while a friend suffered minor injuries.
“The reaction of the community has been a little bit overwhelming, but in a good way,” said Galindo, adding that the public raised more than $12,000 for the teenager’s funeral.
The family will hold a public viewing for Andrews on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel, 6920 Destiny Drive, Rocklin. A funeral service is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Destiny Christian Church, 6900 Destiny Drive, Rocklin.

Both events are open to the public.
In addition, Del Oro High School officials are planning a candlelight vigil Thursday at 6 p.m. at the campus football stadium in Loomis.
Rocklin police said Wednesday that a final report on the crash investigation likely would be released next week.
Andrews, who was born in Honduras’ capital city of Tegucigalpa, was expected to join the Air Force upon graduation, his mother said.
Galindo, who said she became a U.S. citizen Wednesday during a ceremony at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, said she was struggling to adapt to life without her son.
“He was supposed to be with me here today,” said Galindo, pausing. “It’s hard without him.”
