Prep of the Week: Greg Cabral of Del Campo
As Greg Cabral goes, so goes the Del Campo Cougars.
A shifty and quick 5-foot-8 running back, Cabral rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in a 49-7 victory over Ponderosa on Friday, keeping the Cougars’ playoff hopes alive.
Cabral, a junior, earned The Bee’s Prep of the Week honor through voting on sacbee.com.
In Del Campo’s season opener, Cabral rushed for 358 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries in a 26-21 win over Merced. In a 15-6 win over Vanden, Cabral rushed for 293 yards and two scores in 38 carries.
Del Campo coach Mike Dimino said Cabral has had a great season, has been a workhorse and is “a great young man.”
It’ll be Cabral and the Cougars against unbeaten Antelope this Friday night. Del Campo (3-4) closes the regular season against Oakmont and Bella Vista, needing to finish with a 5-5 record to have a shot at the postseason.
Del Campo seeks its 13th playoff appearance in 14 seasons.
