Will the Sacramento area have another first-round pick? Meet the region's NFL hopefuls
On Thursday, lives will change with the announcement of names in Dallas.
Several area prospects have had their names called in early rounds of the NFL draft in recent years: Arik Armstead and Shaq Thomspon in the first round in 2015 and Eddie Vanderdoes and Ahkello Witherspoon in the third round in 2017.
Here's a peek at three area prospects who expect to be drafted into the NFL:
Kolton Miller
Position: Offensive tackle
College: UCLA
High school: Roseville
Key numbers: 6-foot-8, 310 pounds ... Ran 40-yard dash in 4.95 seconds .... Recorded 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump (a combine record for offensive linemen).
Comment: Tremendous size and effort to match on each snap. He is eager to learn and improve. Good athlete who has strong hands and nimble feet.
Projection: Rounds 1-2
Taron Johnson
Position: Defensive back
College: Weber State
High school: Sheldon
Key numbers: 5-foot-11, 195 pounds ... Ran a 4.5-second 40 .... 172 career tackles, 42 career pass breakups .... Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of Year in 2017.
Comment: Excellent cover skills and a willing tackler whose burst to the ball impressed coaches at Senior Bowl workouts.
Projection: Rounds 4-6
Trayvon Henderson
Position: Defensive back
College: Hawaii
High School: Grant
Numbers: 6-foot, 205 pounds ... 38 career starts ... 237 career tackles, 18 for loss .... team captain.
Comment: Physical and fast, a reliable tackler who performs with high energy. Has played with an edge since his Grant days. One of Hawaii's most versatile players, he impressed in Senior Bowl workouts.
Projection: Rounds 6-7
