Video: ‘The Buzz With Joe D’ talks about school honoring Inderkum coach Terry Stark

Joe Davidson, Sacramento Bee high school sports writer and host of “The Buzz With Joe D,” said Inderkum High School will honor its longtime football coach Terry Stark during the final regular season game on Friday.

“He’s taken a couple of years off to just kind of recharge,” Davidson said on Thursday’s live show (see video above) while showing images of Stark through the years as he racked up 230 total wins in his career. “He’s also been a guy who says ‘hey, I don’t golf, I don’t fish, I don’t hunt. I do football.’ He may come back in some capacity. The game is better with Terry Stark in it.”

Before tonight’s regular season game, Inderkum will recognize Stark for his years of coaching service and impact from 2005-2019. In 15 seasons at the school, he achieved a 159-29 record, with 24 playoff wins, four section title appearances and 12 league titles, according to the school.

Stark was a star quarterback under famed coach Don Brown and the late Gerry Kundert at Mira Loma in 1975 and ‘76 during the Matadors’ heyday. He played at American River College and logged eight years of semi-pro ball with the Sacramento Cobras.

Stark became head coach at Mira Loma in 1990, implementing the Wing-T principals he had learned from his own coaches.

“Kudos to Terry Stark, one of the good guys and one of the great coaches in the region over the years,” Davidson said.

The Buzz with Joe D” is broadcast live Thursdays at noon at sacbee.com and the newspaper’s YouTube, Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Editor’s note: Terry Stark stepped down as Inderkum coach in 2019. An earlier version of this story implied he was still coaching.d
