The CIF State Football Championship Bowl games will be played at Sacramento State the next three seasons, the CIF announced Friday in Carson, where the games have been held every year since the system was adopted in 2006.
Hornet Stadium hosted the CIF Northern California Open Division championship in 2012 and 2013 and last weekend’s NorCal Division I title game between Folsom and Grant.
“We are excited to be holding this event at a facility which has hosted events such as the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships and will allow for a memorable experience for our student-athletes,” CIF executive director Roger Blake said Friday.
Sac State and the CIF is working with the Sacramento Sports Commission on this venture. The Sacramento Sports Commission submitted winning bids for Olympic Trials and NCAA championship track events and last summer hosted the USA Track and Field Championships.

And Hornet Stadium had a head start of sorts on football championship events, having hosted the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I and II title games since 2010, including more than 17,000 for the 2010 D-II game between Grant and Folsom. In addition, Sac State was the host venue for the 2012, 2013 and 2014 NorCal D-I title games, and the 2012 and 2013 NorCal Open Division games (since dropped).
"We have an awesome facility, we're organized," said Steve Tebbs.
