Baseball to show off creativity, allow ‘thank you’ messages during Players Weekend
Prepare for some colorful jerseys and interesting nicknames on baseball diamonds this weekend.
Players Weekend begins Friday around major league ballparks. Instead of last names, most jerseys will have a creative name across the back. Also, a patch that says “thank you” along with a space for players to add any text they choose will be on the jersey’s sleeve.

All 30 teams will take part in the promotion, which celebrates creativity while giving fans a chance to better know the players.
“We wanted a way to accelerate the process of fans getting to know them,” Chris Marinak, Major League Baseball’s executive vice president of league economics and strategy, told Rolling Stone magazine. “We have 800 players in the major leagues and each one of them has a unique story that fans, at every local level, can make a connection with.”
The jerseys will be auctioned, with proceeds benefiting the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation.
